Playtime New York - Manhattan, (8/1/15 - 8/3/15)

For those in North America, the Playtime New York show is the one of the biggest events of the year where designers, toy-makers and retailers all come together to display their latest creations and network with others in the business. This year, Playtime New York took place August 1st-3rd at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan. As always, Playtime featured well-established businesses as well as new arrivals from around the world. Finkelstein’s, Ultra Violet, tinycottons and Oli & Carol are among the notable companies that were in attendance at this season’s show.

The draw of ballet is multi-faceted – beautiful music, graceful movement – but it’s undeniable that fashion is a large part of what makes the discipline so attractive to so many young girls. Ballet is known for its gorgeous costumes — satin bodices, tulle skirts and sparkling tiaras come to mind. Of course when talking about ballet you can’t forget the shoes. Those soft, pliable flats are super comfortable and help the feet slide through the dance moves perfectly. Linge Shoes captures that Ballerina dream in their every stitch.

The whole baby package is pretty cute so dressing it up just adds to the adorableness. The collection was created with an active baby’s comfort in mind so leggings stretch, bend and move through all a little one’s crawling and climbing adventures.

We’re slowly climbing back but need to work harder. When you sell American-made you are helping move the economy forward; It’s a patriotic move as well as an economic one. The Giggle Guide® salutes four companies, CookieCutterKingdom, Peas and Queues, Tickle Toes and Dakota Leaf, all of which produce their goods right here in the U.S. These folks are doing their bit: the next move is up to you.

Nearly everyone knows that sunscreen is one of the best ways to prevent burns, damage and skin cancer, but finding the right sunscreen isn’t always easy. Many parents nowadays are discriminating consumers when it comes to personal care products for their babies and children; they’re concerned about the chemicals and additives in many mass marketed sunscreens and want natural alternatives. Unfortunately, many of those natural sunscreens, while gentle and safe, don’t always do the best job of filtering out harmful rays. California Baby is known for its high-quality, effective natural sunscreen and other personal care products.

Some of us see a piece of material and dream of all it can be. Lena Aboo made those dreams a reality. By simply finding a piece of leather from her mother’s skirt and witnessing the skills of an Indian shoemaker, Aboo was inspired to create her first pair of leather baby shoes. The experience of hand-making something as personal as a baby’s first pair of shoes brought Aboo closer to childlike creativity, a time with no rules. And from that feeling, she created Sonatina. The result is the kind of display-worthy, high-quality leather shoes that will become heirloom pieces.

Fashion is just one of the many ways girls show their sass and independence, often picking out their own clothing at a young age. Even if these early ensembles are far from Vogue-ready, they’re a sign that the child is starting to develop her own sense of self and autonomy. Molly Glitz, Zaza Couture, Nina & Nelli, and Celegrity Kids all offer looks that lean slightly toward the bold and avant garde, while still staying solidly in the confines of comfortable, easygoing children’s wear.
