pediped introduces their new Kenadi boot named in memory of Kenadi Jean Weis, a beautiful young girl who died when she was just 5 1/2 years old. Kenadi suffered from a traumatic birth experience and was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms a few months after she was born. She passed away unexpectedly from asymptomatic pneumonia and probably a seizure. pediped was introduced to Kenadi when her mother contacted them in need of an over-sized soft-sole Originals shoe. They went on to develop a shoe just for Kenadi and it worked perfectly for her special needs.

One way Andi Green dealt with those scary feelings was through art. Her drawings created a lifeline to express the complicated monsters in her head. And by personifying the emotions, she was empowered and began to share her creations. Growing up in the city in the 1970’s, when it was still known as Bombay, was an exciting experience for Rekha Iyer, founder of children’s clothing line Bouton Kids. Rekha had an eye for fashion early on and her childhood memories involving clothing helped inspire her to create the designs that would lead to the launch of Bouton Kids. Now living in London, Iyer is watching her dream become a reality. Her sister, Sunita Iyer, a New York-based textile designer, introduced the brand to the United States in 2010, making Bouton a truly international company.

This refers to an idea unassuming in its simplicity that goes on to garner mass appeal because of its quirky charm or ability to fill a need people didn’t even know they had. Named after the famous 1970’s toy craze, a “Pet Rock idea” is one that most product creators dream of. After all, who wouldn’t want to make a living in such an a fun and easy way with a product that brings happiness to so many people? Sari Wiaz is lucky enough to have stumbled upon such an idea with her product Baby Paper.

For those in North America, the Playtime New York show is the one of the biggest events of the year where designers, toy-makers and retailers all come together to display their latest creations and network with others in the business. This year, Playtime New York took place August 1st-3rd at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan. As always, Playtime featured well-established businesses as well as new arrivals from around the world. Finkelstein’s, Ultra Violet, tinycottons and Oli & Carol are among the notable companies that were in attendance at this season’s show.
